The Fulton Railroaders defeat the Owensboro Oilers, 12-5
24-Jun-2017 Railroaders 12, Oilers 5. (June 24, 2017) The slow starting Railroaders waited until mid-game before powering past the visiting Oilers to win 12-5 in Fulton.
The Railroaders had 14 hits, stranded 10 runners and had 3 errors, while the Oilers totaled 9 hits, left 5 on base and committed 4 errors.
Fulton scored one run in the first innings for an early lead. Owensboro waited until the 4th inning before scoring 3 runs from 4 hits and one Railroader
error. Chase Andrews doubled for a RBI and Andrew Kirkland also doubled for 2 RBI.
Top of the 5th, the Oilers added 2 more runs from two RBI singles to take a 5-1 lead. The Railroaders answered with one run in the bottom half off
a solo homerun by Paul Salata to make it a 5-2 score.
Bottom of the 6th inning, the Railroaders exploded scoring 6 runs off 7 hits and 2 Oiler errors. Hunter Hidgon began with a 3 RBI homerun followed
by Jake Wikel with a solo homer. Two more RBI singles made it an 8-5 Fulton lead.
The Railroaders extended their lead in the 7th and 8th scoring 2 runs in each inning to make the final 12-5 score.
Reliever Jackson South gets the win for 4 innings pitched allowing 3 hits, no runs or walks, and had 4 strikeouts. Starter Cody Caballero went 5 innings
giving up 6 hits, tagged for 5 runs (3 earned), no walks and 4 strikeouts.
Owensboro's starter Michael Rotenberry takes the loss for 5 innings of work and was relieved in the top of the 6th inning responsible for 8 hits, 6
runs (5 earned) 4 walks and had 6 strikeouts.
The two teams go at it again on Sunday in Owensboro to complete their regular season meetings together.
