​The Hoppers took down the Miners 12-6

The Hoptown Hoppers (19-13) took down the visiting Madisonville Miners (15-19) 12-6 on Wednesday at Hoppers Fan Appreciation Night. Alex Walker (5-2) got the win for the Hoppers pitching 5 innings, giving up 3 earned runs on 5 hits with 5 walks and 1 strikeout. Jack Bellinger (1-3) got the loss for the Miners pitching 3 innings, giving up 6 runs, 2 of them earned on 9 hits with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts.

The Hoppers got on the board early with 4 runs in the 1st inning. It started with a costly 2-out error by Madisonville allowing Taylor Fought to reach first base. The next four batters reached base safely with a double by Reese Alexiades, a walk by Griffin Rivers, an RBI single by Cody Cooper and a 2 RBI single by Nolen Milton.

Hoptown tacked on to their lead with 2 more runs in the 3rd inning. Fought led off with a hard hit single and would score on a double by Rivers. A base hit by Cooper advanced Rivers to 3rd who would score on a fielder’s choice ground ball by Milton.

The Miners tried to mount a comeback with a 3 spot in the 5th inning highlighted by a 2 RBI triple by Bradley Hull scoring Brooks Benson and Robert Strader who both reached on walks. Hull would later score on an RBI base hit by Logan Jarvis.

The Hoppers extended their lead with a 5 run 6th inning that featured a 2 RBI double by Zack Duvall, a sacrifice fly by Alexiades and an RBI base hit by Daryl Myers.

Madisonville added another run in the 7th inning. Jarvis led off with a triple to deep left center and scored on a ground ball by Ryan Brooks.

Hoptown responded with a run in the bottom of the 7th inning with an RBI base hit by Fought over the left fielder’s head scoring Aharon Modlin who reached on an error. Modlin went 3 for 4 on the night and scored two runs.

The Miners scored another run in the top of the 8th inning after Benson reached 1st on a walk, advanced to 2nd on a wild pitch and would later score on a passed ball.

The Hoppers host the Muhlenberg County Stallions (12-19) on Thursday night for Host Family Night and the Miners travel to Henderson to face the Flash (14-18).
