The Hoptown Hoppers defeat the Dubois County Bombers 9-5


The Hoptown Hoppers (12-9) hosted the league leading Dubois County Bombers (16-4) for a Monday night make-up game that would see the Hoppers defeat the Bombers 9-5.

The Hoppers exploded early with 6 runs in the 1st inning. Mike Rhea lead off the inning with a double and was driven in with a double by Taylor Fought. Zach Duvall reached base on a single to put 2 runners on. Reese Alexiades then blasted a 3 run home run over the center field wall to make the score 4-0. After Aiden Elias reached 1st on a fielder’s choice and Daryl Myers was put on with a walk, Aharon Modlin drove in both with a double to the wall in left center making the score 6-0 after one inning. Joey Antonopolous started for The Bombers and only pitched 2/3 of an inning and got the loss.

The Bombers responded with one run in the top of the 2nd inning on an RBI single by Caleb Wagner. This was followed by a 4 run 3rd inning that was highlighted by hits from Brandon Smith, Alex Alders and Jaxson Blair.

Tyler Graham came in for relief in the 5th inning and pitched a total of 2 1/3 innings giving up only one hit and ultimately earning the win for the Hoppers.

Hoptown extended their lead in the 6th inning with a 2-out single by Duvall who advanced to 2nd on a stolen base. Alexiades drove in Duvall for his 4th RBI of the night.

The Hoppers added 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th with runs scored by Elias and Myers. Modlin had his 3rd RBI of the night in the same inning.

Jesse Philp came in to pitch the final 2 innings for The Hoppers and effectively shut down The Bombers giving up only one hit with one walk and five strikeouts.

The Hoppers head to Madisonville to face the Miners on Tuesday and The Bombers face the Oilers in Owensboro, both for 7:05 starts.
