The Marion Bobcats defeated the Owensboro Oilers, 13-3

The visiting Marion Bobcats split their first two-game trip to Owensboro by defeating the Owensboro Oilers Wednesday night. The final score was 13 to 3.  The Bobcats scored first with two runs in the top of the 1st inning. Leadoff hitter Desmond Roberts (hit by pitch) and Cody Schmitt (single) scored. Schmitt collected an RBI for Roberts and came in  himself on a wild pitch.  Marion added two more runs in the top of the 2nd inning. Josh Johnson singled, and advanced to second base on an error. Two outs later, back-to-back walks loaded the bases. Cody Eickhoff made the Oilers pay with a 2-RBI single ahead of the third out.  Owensboro got on the scoreboard with a run in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Eric Barnes led off with a single. He moved up to second base as Ryan Messex walked behind him. Barnes scored one strikeout later on a RBI single from Austin Hargrove -- who was then tagged out trying to go to second base. A groundout followed. The Bobcats pushed their lead to 9 to 1 with five runs in the top of the 5th inning. Scoring were Cody Kottich (single), Eickhoff (walk) Taylor Banks (2-RBI single), Landon Weitekamp (walk), and Johnson (hit by pitch). Jake Hirniak got the RBI for Banks -- but both Weitekamp and Johnson were plated by fielding errors.  The Oilers answered all-too briefly with one run in their half of the 5th inning. Luis Mila led off with a single. One out later, Davey Murphy doubled. Barnes made a groundout to the right side of the infield an effective RBI opportunity to bring Mila across. The inning closed at 9 to 2.  Marion increased their advantage with two runs in the top of the 6th inning. Eickhoff led off hit by a pitch. Joey Xavier followed reaching on an error. Both were respectively driven in by Weitekamp (hit by a pitch) and Johnson (single).  Owensboro responded with enough intent for one run in the bottom of the 6th inning. Carter Pack reached first base safely after a dropped third strike. Hargrove hit into a fielder's choice that cut Pack down at second base, but couldn't take out Hargrove at first base. A wild pitch moved him over to second base. Another out later, Ryan Stephens came through with an RBI single to score Hargrove.  The Bobcats added one run each in the top of the 7th and top of the 9th innings. In the 7th inning, Cameron Chestnut walked, took two bases on an error, and eventually scored on a RBI single by Xavier. In the top of the 9th inning, with one away Schmitt singled, Bailey walked and Eickhoff  RBI doubled to plate Schmitt before two fly out closed the night's scoring at 13 to 3.  Marion starter Andrew Edwards gets the win. The starting Owensboro pitcher Matt Daniels takes the loss
