The Owensboro Oilers defeated the Marion Bobcats, 7-3

The visiting Owensboro Oilers defeated the hosting Marion Bobcats Friday evening by a final score of 7 to 3.  The Oilers scored first with two runs in the top of the 4th inning. Luis Mila led off with a single, Ty Stetson walked, and Ryan Messex was hit by a pitch -- loading the bases. Drew Barrett followed with an RBI walk scoring Mila. One out later, a fielder's choice by Brent Weinzapfel effectively drove in Stetson's run. The Oilers led 2-0.  The Bobcats tightened the game by scoring one in the bottom of the 6th inning. Cody Schmitt was hit by a pitch leading off. Cody Kottich followed by reaching on an error that sent Schmitt on to third base. Taylor Banks brought Schmitt across the plate with an RBI groundout. At the end of six innings the Oilers led 2-1.  Owensboro responded with three runs in top of the 7th inning, all coming with two outs. With two away Gabriel Pena and Ryan Stephens singled back-to-back. Next Mila cracked a 2- RBI double, scoring both Pena and Stephens motoring around the bases from first. Mila took third base as the Bobcats threw home after Stephens. Mila came in with the third run on a wild pitch. The Owensboro lead expanded to 5-1. The Oilers added two more runs in the top of the 8th inning. With one out, Barrett walked, Eric Barnes and Bo Younker doubled back-to-back -- Younker's being the 2-RBI variety. The Oilers lead reached 7-1. The difference between a lead and a final is the margin kept and Marion gained ground by scoring one run in both the bottom of the 8th and 9th innings. In the 8th inning, Joey Xavier reached on fielder's choice traded for the second out. Before the third out was secured Xavier stole second and scored on a RBI single by Caleb Eickhoff. That made the score 7-2. In the 9th inning, with one out -- AJ Dokey singled and stole second base. He came the rest of the way around before the Bobcat side struck out to end the game with the 7 to 3 score favoring the visitors.  Owensboro starter Myles Scott recorded the win. Bobcat starter Todd Brazell got the loss.
