The Fulton Railroaders defeated the Owensboro Oilers, 4-2
The Railroaders finally prevailed over the Oilers on Thursday and moved into 3rd place by only.001 percentage point above Owensboro. The Oilers took a 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning with Ryan Messex reaching 3rd, tagging and scoring on a caught foul fly. Great pitching by Oilers' starter Ben Wright kept the Railroaders in check allowing only 2 hits through 5 innings. In the bottom of the 6th, Mikee Moore reached 1st base on an error bringing up Brandon Eggenschwiler who promptly launch a line drive over the 42 foot high Little Monster in right field giving Fulton a 2-1 lead. In the top of the 8th, Eric Barnes lead off for the Oilers with a single, and the Railroaders pulled starter BJ Sieverding from the mound and brought in Jimmy Ryan for relief. Still in the 8th, Barnes made it to 3rd then scored on a Ty Broady RBI single, however, the Oilers loaded the bases with 1 out but failed to score leaving the game tied 2-2. Owensboro sent in a new reliever, Brandon Flora, to hold the Railroaders at bay. Bottom of the 9th and still tied, Brandon Eggenschwiler lead off and gained base being hit by a pitch and reached 2nd on a ground out. After a second out, Joe Mike came to the plate and jump on the first pitch, hitting a walk-off 2RBI homer to win the game for Fulton. The Oilers amassed 11 hits but stranded 11 on base and had 1 error. Ty Broady lead the hitting for Owensboro going 3 of 4 and a RBI. The Railroaders only chalked up just 4 hits leaving only 2 men on base and committed no errors. Jimmy Ryan picks up the win with Brandon Flora taking the loss. With the Bobcats losing to the Pirates on Thursday, the race has gotten tighter. Only 1.5 games separate all four teams in the OVL. The Railroaders head to Marion on Friday and Saturday to take on the Bobcats, and the Oilers go to Tradewater to face the Pirates.
