The Owensboro Oilers defeated the Fulton Railroaders, 11-0

The Owensboro Oilers won Wednesday night's game with the visiting Fulton Railroaders by the shutout score of 11 to 0. The victory increased Owensboro's late-season lead in the OVL standings to 1.5 games over second place.  The Oilers scored five runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Brent Weinzapfel led that Oiler inning off with a walk. Gabriel Pena bunted -- intending to sacrifice the runner along. The pitcher made the fielding choice to try the force out at second base, and didn't succeed. Luis Mila followed with a sacrifice bunt that pushed Weinzapfel and Pena on to third and second bases respectively. Ty Stetson RBI singled in Weinzapfel, and eventually moved to second base on a passed ball, Ryan Stephens reached on an error that allowed Pena in to score. Drew Barrett singled to load the bases. Eric Barnes hammered a ball that only a sensational catch by Fulton center fielder David Simmons downplayed to a RBI sacrifice fly scoring Stetson -- and moving both Stephens and Barrett up. Ryan Messex reached on an two-base error that brought in Stephens and Barrett as the final runs of the extended frame. There would be one more walk in the inning before Weinzapfel struck out to end the very inning he led off.  Owensboro added three more runs in the bottom of the 4th inning. With two outs,  Stetson was hit by a pitch. Stephens walked, and Stetson stole third base. Barrett singled to load the bases again. Barnes RBI doubled into left field. An errant return throw allowed Barnes to take third base as Stetson, Stephens, and Barrett were all driven in. The Oilers put up two more runs in the bottom of the 5th inning. With one out, Weinzapfel singled, Pena doubled. Mila also doubled, garnering an RBI for Weinzapfel. Stetson sacrifice flied for an RBI of Pena. The last Owensboro run of the night came in the bottom of the 7th inning. With two outs, Stephens singled. Barrett followed with a RBI double to the deepest part of center field --Stephens scored easily from first.  It was a complete game for the Owensboro Oilers, in every sense. Starter Ben Wright went all 9 innings. He scattered 5 Fulton hits while striking out 8 opposing hitters to win. The Railroader starter Taylor Reilly took the loss -- though certainly sharing a difficult night for the visiting team.
