The Owensboro Oilers won the first game of their first round, best-of-three playoff series. The Oilers outscored the hosting Tradewater Pirates 4 to 2 with Owensboro starter Ben Wright's strong complete game showing. The series now moves to Owensboro for as many as two games if needed, to be played at Apollo High School.

Bucs must return to Owensboro after opening game loss in post season.  For the Pirates to move on to round two, they must win two consecutive games on the road.  The regular season champs schooled the Bucs in small ball tactics, moving runners and finding ways to plate runs.  Tradewater tacks on two runs in the ninth, but it's too little too late, and former Buc skipper Steve Fowler records another win at Riverside Park.
