The Owensboro Oilers defeated the Fulton Railroaders, 17-9
The Oilers take a 1-0 lead in the final series of the Post Season Playoffs by out gunning the Railroaders with 5 homeruns totaling 12 RBIs. Owensboro marked up 16 hits total leaving only 5 men on base. The Railroaders chalked up 11 hits with 10 men stranded. The Oilers started quickly in the 1st with the first homerun from Ryan Stephens for 2 RBIs. The Railroaders answered with 1 in the bottom half of 1st on a RBI single from Brandon Eggenschwiler. Top of the 3rd, Owensboro fired the second homer by Drew Barrett for 3 RBIs and another single RBI in the 5th to take a 6-1 lead on Fulton. The Railroaders came up with score number 2 in the bottom of the 5th on a RBI double from Mikee Moore. The Oilers began the 6th with 3 more runs and closed their half inning with a blasted 3rd homer (worth 3 RBIs) by Eric Barnes. With the score now 12-2 and hope fading fast, the Railroaders rallied in the bottom of the 6th sending 11 men to the plate, scoring 7 runs on 4 hits along with 2 Owensboro errors, climbing to within 3 runs of the lead. The score 12-9 to begin the 7th; the Oilers increased their lead with 3 more starting with the 4th homerun by Dalton Lykins for 2 RBIs. Now down by 6 runs the Railroaders sent in their 5th pitcher Joe Mike, moving him from 1st base to the mound. Mike fell victim to the 5th and final homer in the 8th, another 2 RBI shot from Brent Weinzapfel to cap off the final 17-9 victory for Owensboro. Cody Williams earned the win pitching 5 2/3 innings giving up only 3 hits, walking 5 and 3 strikeouts. Of the 8 runs scored against Williams, only 3 were earned. Starter and losing pitcher for Fulton was BJ Sieverding going 4 2/3 allowing 8 hits, 6 earned runs, a walk and 2 strikeouts. Game 2 in the final series is scheduled for Saturday in Owensboro, along with game 3 if necessary.
