The Owensboro Oilers defeated the Fulton Railroaders, 6-5
The home opening Owensboro Oilers defeated the visiting Fulton Railroaders Sunday night by a score of 6 to 5 in 11 innings.
The Oilers scored first with one run in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Brandon Morris led off the inning with a double. He was advanced to third base, then scored on a wild pitch. Owensboro added another run in the bottom of the 6th inning. Josh Salmon singled to start the frame. He stole second base, advanced on a wild pitch, then scored on an RBI double by Colin Buckner.
The Railroaders took the lead with three runs in the top of the 7th inning. With one out Erik Manning singled, Andrew Cash and Austin Bryant both walked to load the bases. Manning scored on a passed ball. One out later Brandon Eggenschwiler plated Cash and Bryant with a 2-RBI single.
The Oilers tied the game with a run in their half of the 7th inning, courtesy of a solo home run by Matt Cissell. Fulton reclaimed the lead with a solo home run by Angelo Burrage in the top of the 8th inning. Owensboro scored twice in the bottom of the 8th inning to retake the lead. Salmon singled leading off. One out later Dalton West walked. A RBI double by Conner Brackhahn scored Salmon and put West on third base. West came in on a wild pitch. The Railroaders scored once in the 9th to tie the game. Cash was hit by a pitch and Jack Henry Jones pinch ran for him. An errant pick-off attempt moved Jones all the way over to third base. Bryant RBI doubled to score Jones, but the Oilers retired the next three Railroaders in order, leaving Bryant at third base.
The late developing back and forth battle ended when Owensboro scored the winning run in the bottom of the 11th inning. Kyle Schwinghammer singled to lead off. A fielding error put two on with no out. Schwinghammer scored when Salmon lifted a sacrifice to center, and the attempt on him at third base eluded fielding. Owensboro reliever Shane Weedman collected the win. Fulton Reliever Cory Klinger took the loss.
