The Hoptown Hoppers defeated the Madisonville Pirates, 6-5
Trailing 5-4 entering the bottom of the 9th, the Hoptown Hoppers were recipients of the Tradewater Pirates miscues and came back for a surprising 6-5 victory. With one out in the 9th, Hoptown's Matt McGowan took first after being hit by pitch, soon followed by Fernando Tanaka who also was hit. Following Rob Friedlein's foul out, Tradewater seemed to have the game in hand with two outs when Brett Pirtle grounded to second baseman Kyle Neimeier. Neimeier seemed to have trouble getting the ball out of his glove and was ran into in the baseline by Tanaka, knocking the ball loose. McGowan scored on the play to tie it up 5-5. Brad Sevenish then singled to left field to load the bases for the Hoppers. On a ground ball to second by Jake Sandlin, Tanaka scored from third base when Sevenish was able to beat the attempted force out at second base: Hoppers win 6-5.
Tradewater had taken an early 3-0 lead in the 3rd inning after Buddy Elgin singled, advanced to second on a bunt sacrifice, then Neimeier was walked. Both Pirates scored on a ripping triple by Tradewater's Trevor Haggard. Haggard then scored the Pirates third run when Cole Fergus singled him home. The Pirates would take a 5-0 lead in the top of the 5th when Joe Black walked with one out; Neimeier singled; Haggard advanced the runners to second and third with a bunt sacrifice; and Fergus singled both runners safely home.
Hoptown finally got on the board in the bottom of the 5th when Friedlein scored on a Sevenish single, which flipped past the right fielder's error. Sevenish would score on a hard-hit double by Sandlin, making it 5-2, but the inning ended as Sandlin tried to stretch the double and was thrown out at third base.
The Hoppers made it close in the bottom of the 7th following Tanaka's single to left field, a Friedlein single to right, and another error on which Tanaka scored and Friedlein moved all the way to third base. Pirtle's ground out would then advance Friedlein home for a 5-4 score.
The Hoppers' eight hits were aided by Tradewater's four errors. Brad Sevenish produced ½ of the Hoppers hits, going 4 for 5 at the plate.
