The Fulton Railroaders defeated the Owensboro Oilers, 10-5
The Owensboro Oilers lost their Saturday night home game to the Railroaders up from Fulton. The final score was 10 to 5. Each team scored one run in the 3rd inning. In the top half Quinton Alexander led off with a double. He was sacrifice bunted over to third base base. Alexander scored on a RBI sacrifice fly by Mikee Moore. In the bottom half the Oilers answered as Taylor Mathews and Austin Edge started with consecutive walks. One out later, Mathews came around as John Saylor reached base on an error. Owensboro took a brief 2 to 1 lead with a run in the bottom of the 4th inning. With one out, Oiler newcomer Brendon Hardin drew a walk. Tyler Grogg, also making his Owensboro debut, followed with a single. Tyler Tichenor walked to load the bases. Mathews then reached on a RBI fielder's choice used to force Grogg out at third, but the double play could not be turned as Hardin crossed the plate.
Fulton turned the game in their favor with three runs in the top of the 5th inning. With one out, Rob Hogenkamp walked and Austin Bryant followed with a single. A groundout moved both runners up a base. Hogenkamp from third base on an error. Billy O'Connor RBI singled to bring in Bryant. Andrew Cash followed with an RBI double, scoring O'Connor from first base. The Railroaders led 4-2. Fulton added three more runs in the top of the 7th inning. With two out, Angelo Burrage was hit by a pitch. O'Connor singled. Cash RBI singled to score Burrage. Rick Linton followed with a 2-RBI double to plate both O'Connor and Cash. Fulton expanded the lead, 7-2.
Owensboro found runs late trying to get back into the game, scoring two runs in the bottom of the 7th inning. Tyler Tichenor led off the inning with a walk, and had already advanced to third base when walks to Mathews and Edge loaded the bases. One out later, Saylor reached on fielder's choice that played to force Edge out at second base, but allowed both Tichenor and Matthews to come in. That closed the score to 7-4. The Railroaders put those two runs back up in the top of the 8th inning. Scoring in the inning were Brock Downey , who reached on an error , and scored on a separate error as well as Hogenkamp who reached on the error that allowed Downey to score. Hogenkamp was driven in on a RBI sacrifice fly by O'Connor. That made the score 9-4. The Oilers cut into the lead one last time with one last run in the bottom of the 8th inning. With two out, Grogg singled, then stole both second and third base. He scored on a RBI single by Tichenor. Fulton put that run back on the scoreboard too in the top of the 9th inning. With one out, Alexander walked and eventually scored on an RBI sacrifice fly by Hogankamp. That score was 10 - 5 in favor of the Railroaders, and there it remained.
The starters took the decisions for each side in the game. Railroaders pitcher Cory Klinger got the win while Oilers hurler Patrick Knight took the loss.
