The Hoptown Hoppers defeated the Marion Bobcats, 9-2

Hopkinsville pulled ahead of Marion 3-2 in the season series and two games in front of the second-place Bobcats in the league standings with a dominating 9-2 win at Guess Field Sunday afternoon.

The Hoppers amassed 16 hits—including a double and two triples—off four Marion pitchers, handing starter Chris Hunt (2-1) his first loss of the season. The visiting team jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after one inning and added another three runs off Hunt in the fourth to forge ahead 6-0, chasing Hunt after only 3 1/3 innings. The Hoppers' bats would add another run before the Bobcats tallied their only two runs of the afternoon in the bottom of the seventh.
Marion was able to put only three hits on the board off five Hoptown pitchers, with the first coming in the fourth of Clayton Dugan. He threw four scoreless innings after spelling starter Kyle Spencer after only one inning pitched. The outing earned Dugan (1-0) his first win of the season.
Brandon Ollet, Dave Murphy and Greg Liming were the only Marion batters to not be shut out at the plate, each singling. Caleb Luttrell accounted for the lone RBI for the Bobcats, driving in Murphy in the seventh. Ollet added the only other score for Marion, reaching home on an error in the same inning.
