The Madisonville Pirates defeated the Marion Bobcats, 10-6
(From Marion) The Bobcats squandered an early 3-1 lead, a 2-run Greg Liming home run and 4-for-5 night for Clint Ambrosch en route to a 10-6 loss at the hands of Tradewater Wednesday at Guess Field. The loss was Marion's fifth consecutive, dropping their record to 10-11 in a third-place tie with Fulton.
Marion put together 13 hits and held a 6-5 lead heading into the seventh. The lead was short-lived, however, when reliever James Dyer spelled starter James Naile by giving up the tying run in the seventh after hitting the first batter he faced. The Pirates would tack on three more runs off Dyer (1-2), who failed to register an out in the eighth, leading to his second loss of the year. Manager Drew Barrett called on Ethan Utley in the bullpen to get all three outs of the inning.
Utley would give up another run in the final frame, leaving the Bobcats in a 10-6 hole heading into their final at-bat of the game. However, Pirate reliever Corey Ames shut down the Bobcats in the ninth to preserve the win for the surging Tradewater team.
Despite scoring 10 runs and registering 12 hits against Bobcat pitching, the Marion staff stranded 16 Pirates on base.
The loss spoiled a productive night at the plate for several Bobcat hitters. Leading the way was Liming, who went 2-for-4 and drove in his two runs of the night on a home run in the fifth. Ambrosch, who came into the night batting .333, contributed a double as one of his four hits. Termaine Wooldridge and Derek Hannahs added two hits each. Hannahs, Dave Murphy and Alex Reiman each drove in a run.
The Bobcats will have Thursday off to regroup for a Friday game at Owensboro.
