The Fulton Railroaders defeated the Madisonville Pirates, 5-4

(From Fulton) The Railroaders held on to beat the Pirates and get their seventh straight victory. The Railroaders win hoists them into second place by a half game over the Pirates and Bobcats who won against the Oilers on the same night in Owensboro. 

     Fulton took the early lead scoring one run in both the 2nd and 3rd innings. Tradewater got on the board in the 4th with one run and put up two more in the 5th to take a 3-2 lead. The Railroaders tied the game in the 6th with one run, then regained the lead in the 7th with a two out 2 RBI homerun by Alex Huddleston. The Pirates closed to within one in the 8th when Trevor Haggard hit a solo homer.

     The Railroaders totaled 13 hits led by Joe Mike who was 3 of 5 with an RBI and one score, and Quinton Alexander going 3 for 3 with a RBI. Alex Huddleston managed the game winning 2 RBI with his only hit on the evening. For the Pirates and their 11 hits, Trevor Haggard was 3 of 4, a RBI and scored twice.

     Jonathon Williams started for Fulton, but only made it through 4 innings giving up 8 hits, 4 walks and 2 strikeouts, tagged with 3 runs (2 earned). Brock Downey takes his third win on the season in relief going for 3 2/3 innings striking out 3, no walks, 3 hits and one earned run. Cody Alvey picked up his 3rd save closing out the 9th innings with 2 strikeouts and a ground out. Madisonville's starter Kooper Kessler pitched for 6 complete innings leaving the game with a lead giving up 3 runs (2 earned) on 8 hits, walking 3 and striking out two. Robert Spath gets tagged for the loss throwing only in the 7th inning, allowing 5 hits along with 2 go ahead earned runs.

     The Railroaders, now at 12-11, are over .500 for the first time in 2012. They will travel to Marion on Saturday to face the Bobcats who just broke a 6 game losing streak with their win over the Oilers. The Railroaders take Sunday off and return to play on Monday at home to take on the 1st place Hoppers at Lohaus Field.
