The Fulton Railroaders defeated the Hoptown Hoppers, 10-8
(From Fulton) The Railroaders extended their winning streak to 9 games after beating the Hoppers in Fulton and gained ground on first place Hoptown.
The Hoppers drew first blood scoring 3 in the third from an error, sacrifice fly, RBI double and single. The Railroaders answered with one run in the bottom of the 3rd off a single and RBI double. Fulton took a 5-3 lead in the fourth inning with two RBI singles, a bases loaded hit-by-pitch and sacrifice fly. Top of fifth, Hoptown cut the lead by one scoring on a bunt single, another Railroaders error and a ground out RBI. The Railroaders pushed two more runs across in the 6th using two walks and a 2 RBI double for a 7-4 lead.
The Hoppers scored another run in the 8th off a fourth Railroader error and RBI single. Fulton took a 10-5 lead in the bottom of the 8th putting up 3 runs on two walks, a RBI single, RBI double and a bases loaded walk. Hoptown made it close in the 9th when a lead off walk and single was followed by a 3 RBI homerun from Philip Menou. The Railroaders then call Cody Alvey to the mound to shutdown the Hopper threat, ending the game and earning his 4th save on the year.
The Railroaders totaled 13 hits; Billy O'Connor was 2 of 3 hitting two doubles for 4 RBI, Eric Manning went 3 for 5 and scored once, Rob Hogenkamp managed 2 of 3, a RBI and crossed the plated four times, and Austin Bryant was 2 for 4 and 2 RBI. The Hoppers picked up 12 hits; Menou was 2 of 5 for 4 RBI and two runs scored, Jake Sandlin 4 for 5 and scored three, and Matt McGown 2 for 2 and a RBI. While the Hoppers played an error free game, the Railroaders had to overcome a total of 4 errors on the evening.
Fulton starter Keaton Baker went only 4 innings on the mound giving up 3 hits and runs (2 earned) with 2 strikeouts and walking 4 batters. In trouble, Baker was replace by Brock Downey who threw for 3 1/3 innings allowing 4 hits, striking out 4, no walks and one unearned run, he gets the win. Jonathon Williams and Casey Tiller combined for only 2/3 of an inning in middle relief. Hopkinsville starter Kyle Barbee takes the loss pitching for 6 innings and tagged for 11 hits, 7 earned runs, 3 walks and strikeouts. Kaleb Brown and Layne Cecil finished the final two innings.
