(From Hopkinsville) Hoptown Hoppers' pitcher Philip Menou turned in a gem In shutting down the Marion Bobcats Thursday night (7-5-2012), giving up just one hit while striking out 10 and walking 4 for a 6-0 complete game. The Hoppers picked up 9 hits and had seven batters hit-by-pitch, while the Bobcats committed 3 errors.
Hoptown took a 1-0 lead in the first after Fernando Tanaka singled the score on a double to left by Jake Sandlin. In the bottom of the 2nd, Hoptown went up 3-0 when Matt McGowan reached on an error, Kaleb Brown walked, Rob Friedlein's sacrifice bunt moved them up, and Tanaka was hit by pitch; then McGowan and Brown both scored on Sandlin's 2-RBI single.
In the 4th, Friedlein and Brett Pirtle were both hit by pitches, Collin Massanelli (batting for Tanaka, who was injured on HBP in 2nd inning) then bunt sacrificed runners to 2nd and 3rd, and a Sandlin sacrifice drove in the runs for a 5-0 Hoppers lead. In the bottom of the 6th, Hoptown scored its final run when Sandlin singled, Cameron Olsen was hit by pitch, then Sandlin scored on Bobby Clark's RBI single.
Marion's Darren Travers put 7 Hoppers on base by hit batsman while throwing 119 pitches, and giving up all 9 hits and six runs through 7 full innings. Jordan Lorenzo finished pitching out the last two innings for Marion.
