The Hoptown Hoppers defeated the Madisonville Pirates, 14-7
After a 45 minute delay in starting the game due to rain, the Hoppers cruised over the Pirates on Friday with a 14-7 victory.
Hoptown scored one run for an early lead in the 1st inning. Tradewater took a brief 2-1 lead in the top of the 3rd only to have the Hoppers tie it at 2 with one run in the bottom half of the inning. In the bottom frame of the 4th the Hoppers plied on 5 more runs, adding another 3 in the sixth for a commanding 10-2 lead. The Pirates scored two in the 7th only to see Hoptown answered with 4 more runs in the bottom half which included a 3 RBI homerun by Jake Sandlin. Tradewater managed 3 runs in the 8th inning, but it was too little too late.
For the Hoppers, Sandlin was best going 3 for 5, crossing the plate once and 6 RBI, followed by Seth Bancroft who was 2 for 4, scored 3 runs and 2 RBI, and Brad Sevenish 2 of 5 for 3 RBI. The top bats for the Pirates were Cole Fergus going 3 of 5, scoring one and 2 RBI, and Trevor Haggard 2 for 5, one RBI and 3 runs scored across the plate.
Both starters were the pitchers of record. Will Hammock earned the win throwing for 5 innings striking out 5, giving up 5 hits and 2 walks, and 2 runs (both unearned). Zach Uher takes the loss tagged with 6 runs (5 earned), walked and struck out 3 each, and gave up 5 hits. Each team used three relievers to finish out the one sided game.
