After 5 innings the visiting team led 5 to 0. Then the Oilers offense went from flat 0 to 6 over the course of the last four innings while defensively holding ground.
The Oilers got on the scoreboard with two runs in the bottom of the 6th inning. With one out, Brendon Hardin and Tyler Tichenor singled back-to back. Taylor Mathews loaded the bases by reaching safely on a bunt. Hardin scored on a RBI sacrifice fly by Tyler Grogg. Matt Johnson followed with a RBI single to drive in Tichenor, making the game 5-2 for the Bobcats. Owensboro drew closer with one run in the bottom of the 8th inning. Hardin was hit by a pitch leading off. Tichenor and Mathews walked back-to-back to load the bases. Grogg RBI walked to secure Hardin's run from third base. Marion bore down for a pop out and a double play to prevent anything else that inning.
Owensboro needed two runs in the bottom of the 9th inning to stay in the game. They got three runs to win the game instead. Brandon Morris was hit by a pitch leading off the inning. Pinch-hitter Malduino Gonzalez singled, and gave way to pinch-runner Matt Cissell. Both runners were advanced one base by a sacrifice bunt. A wild pitch pitch allowed Morris to score the fourth run, and moved Cissell up to third base. Hardin plated Cissell as the fifth and tying run with a RBI single. Hardin got himself 90 feet from home by stealing both second and third bases. Tichenor walked and moved to second base uncontested by the defense. Mathews was intentionally walked to load the bases. A strikeout later, Johnson reached first base on the only Marion defensive error of the evening, but Oilers were safe all around. That included Hardin scoring the sixth and winning run.
The win belonged to Oilers newcomer Christian McHatton who worked five scoreless innings in relief of fellow Oilers newcomer Jeremy Kiper. Bobcats reliever Chris Hunt took the loss.
