The Hoptown Hoppers defeated the Owensboro Oilers, 2-1
(From Owensboro) The Owensboro Oilers were setback with a loss at home in a close Thursday night game with the Hoppers of Hopkinsville. The final score was only 2 to 1.
The Oilers scored their run in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Dalton West led off the home at-bat with a single. One out later Zack Willoughby singled, moving West to second base. John Saylor followed with a single that loaded the bases. Matt Cissell next lifted an RBI sacrifice fly to score West.
The Hoppers tied the game with a run in the top of the 5th inning. With one out, Anthony Mazzella doubled, then advanced to third base on a defensive error. Mazzella came in on a RBI single by Cameron Olsen. The game remained tied until Hopkinsville scored a go-ahead run in the top of the 8th inning. With two outs Jake Sandlin walked. Pinch-hitter Brad Sevenish RBI doubled as Sandlin was moving on the pitch and beat a relay throw to the plate for the run, and the lead 2-1 for the visitors. The score remained unchanged at the end of nine complete innings.
Hopkinsville starter Joshua Tanski worked seven innings for the win and reliever Kyle Spenser earned a two inning save. Owensboro starter Mason Morris was effective in his seven and two-thirds innings, but took the loss.
