The Owensboro Oilers defeated the Marion Bobcats, 9-2
(From Owensboro). Weather finally permitting, the 2013 Owensboro Oilers debuted home play at Kamuf Park by winning Monday night's game with the visiting Marion Bobcats. The final score was 9 to 2.
The Oilers scored first with one run in the bottom of the 1st inning. The night's Oilers leadpff hitter, Brent Carmichael walked and advanced to third base by way of defensive error. He came in on a RBI sacrifice fly by Tyler Tichenor. Owensboro extended the lead with two runs in the bottom of the 4th inning. Houston Looser walked, and reached second base on an error. Looser scored on a RBI single by Matthew Johnson. Johnson moved up on a single by Jacob Roberts, then scored as Marion traded his run for a double play.
The Bobcats got into the game with a run in the top of the 5th inning. With one out, Luke Pearce walked. Pearce took second base on a sacrifice fly, then stole third base. Pearce scored on a RBI single from Wes Evers.
The Oilers answered with four runs in the bottom of the same frame. Tichenor doubled to lead off and went to third base on a balk. An RBI single by Christian McHatton brought Tichenor across. McHatton stole the rest of his way around the bases. Shawn Kahre walked, stole second base, and went to third base on an error. A two-out RBI single by Johnson plated Kahre. Roberts and Tyler Shewmaker singled back-to-back, with Shewmaker driving in Johnson.
Marion got one more run in the top of the 6th inning. With one out Cody Brown singled and moved to second on an error. Austin Braddock singled, pushing Brown to third base. An out later, Pearce walked to load the bases. The following batter, Jarrett Rice RBI'd the hard way -- hit by the pitch -- scoring Brown. That made the score 7 to 2 for the Oilers. The Bobcats came no closer.
Owensboro scored one run each in the bottom of the 7th and 8th innings. In the 7th, Shewmaker, Carmichael, Tichenor, and Newman all walked consecutively with two outs, Newman picked up an RBI for Shewmaker's run. In the 8th, Looser reached on an error, moving to second base as Johnson also reached on an error. Roberts reached on a fielders choice that forced Johnson at second base. Looser scored from third base on a wild pitch.
Oilers starter Shane Weedman struck out six in 5 IP for the win, leading a solid cadre of Oilers relievers in short work the rest of the evening. Bobcats starter David Herrera took the loss.
