The Owensboro Oilers defeated the Dubois County Bombers, 4-3
(From Owensboro) The hosting Owensboro Oilers won their first-ever game with OVL newcomers the Dubois County (DC) Bombers on Tuesday night. The final score was 4 to 3 for the home team.
The Oilers scored first with two runs in the bottom of the 4th inning. Brent Carmichael led off with a walk and stole second base. One out later, Hunter Newman delivered a RBI single to score Carmichael. Newman also rounded the bases and scored on errant fielding of his hit. Owensboro extended the lead to 3-0 with one run in the bottom of the 5th inning. With one out, Tyler Shewmaker and Tyler Tichenor singled back-to-back. With two out, Cody Rogers walked to load the bases. Newman followed, collecting his second RBI for Shewmaker's run with a walk.
The Bombers rallied to tie game with three runs in the top of the 7th inning. Shain Showers led off with a single. Andre Davis was hit by a pitch. Jacob Armstrong singled to load the bases with nobody out. Cole Griesinger batted in Showers on a RBI single. With one out, a wild pitch brought Davis home. Armstrong scored on a RBI groundout by Hamilton Carr.
The Oilers regained the lead with one run in the bottom of the 7th inning. Shewmaker led off with his second single of the game before giving way to pinch-runner Taylor Matthews. Tichenor sacrifice bunted Matthews over to second base. Carmichael followed, reaching on an error, and Matthews came around to score on the same miscue. The Oilers were up 4 to 3 at the end of the inning, and that score held.
Matt Theiss picked up the win for Owensboro in relief of the quality start by Cameron Wallace. Kellon Hibbard earned a save. DC reliever Clint Chestnut was the pitcher of record when the winning run scored, and took the loss.
