The Owensboro Oilers defeated the Marion Bobcats, 9-8
In 11 innings. (From Owensboro) The Owensboro Oilers won the Friday night endurance game with the visiting Marion Bobcats. The final score was Oilers 9 to Bobcats 8 in 11 innings.
The Oilers took an early lead with two runs in the bottom of the 1st inning. Leadoff hitter Tyler Tichenor reached on an error, and Brent Carmichael followed on base the same way. One out later, both Tichenor and Carmichael scored when Hunter Newman also reached base on a Bobcat error. At the end of the 1st inning the Oilers led 2-0.
The give and take of this back and forth game began when Marion tied it with two runs in the top of the 2nd inning. Wes Evers led off with a single. Austin Braddock followed with a single. A double play put Evers at third base with two outs. Aaron King was hit by a pitch. Cody Brown reached on an error that plated Evers and moved King to third base. King scored from third on a wild pitch to knot the score at 2 to 2.
Owensboro went back in front with a run in the bottom of the 4th inning. With one away, Austin Edge singled, then stole second base. Austin Brunk followed with an RBI double to score Edge. After 4 innings, Owensboro led 3 to 2.
Back came the Bobcats to take the lead with 2 runs in the top of the 6th inning. Brandon Lawing led off by reaching on an error. Tyler Odom followed with a single. One out later, Braddock singled to bring in Lawing. Odom was tagged out caught in a run down down between second and third bases as Braddock moved up.Braddock scored the second run on a RBI single by Clint Ambrosch. Now the Bobcats led 4 to 3.
The Oilers tied the game with a run in the bottom of the same inning. Cameron Wallace led off with a single and two outs later he was still at first base. Then Cody Rogers walked. Newman delivered a RBI single scoring Wallace. After 6 innings of play, the game was tied 4 to 4.
Marion scored four runs in the top of the 7th inning. Brown led off with a single, and was sacrifice bunted over to second base. Paul Angel walked. Lawing reached on an error to load the bases. Brown and Angel scored on a 2 RBI single by Odom that moved Lawing to third base. Evers reached on a fielder's choice used to cut Lawing down at the plate as Odom went to second base. Braddock RBI singled to bring in Odom. Ambrosch followed with a RBI single to score Evers. Marion entered the 7th inning stretch leading the game 8 to 4 --but as it turned out, the visitors would not score again.
The Owensboro comeback began with three runs in the bottom of the 8th inning. Tichenor led off by reaching on an error, then stole second base. Carmichael and Rogers walked back-to-back to load the bases. Newman wrapped another RBI single to score Tichenor with the bases still loaded. A strikeout later, Matthew Johnson reached on an error that allowed both Carmichael and Rogers to score. By inning's end the score had closed to 8-7 for the Bobcats. Owensboro got the one run it needed to stay in the game in the bottom of the 9th inning. With one out, Wallace reached on an error, but was put out at second when Tichenor reached on fielder's choice. Tichenor promptly stole second base, then moved to third base on a Bobcat throwing error. Carmichael decisively plated Tichenor with a RBI double. After 9 regulation innings, the game was tied again 8 to 8.
The Oilers won the game with one run in the bottom of the 11th inning. Again, Tichenor led off the inning with a walk, and was sacrifice bunted to second base. Rogers walked and Newman was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Christian McHatton reached on an error -- sufficient to allow Tichenor to score from third base.
Cameron Wallace worked a scoreless 11th inning in relief for Owensboro for the win. Tyler Stewart took the loss for Marion.
