The Hoptown Hoppers defeated the Madisonville Pirates, 5-4
In 7 innings. (From Hopkinsville) Hoptown and Madisonville played two terrific game in a double-header today at Hopkinsville, with the host Hoppers winning the first game 5-4 and the Pirates taking the night game 6-2, with both games being decided in the last inning of the two seven-inning contests.
In Game 1, John Beary drove in the go-ahead run in the fifth inning and the game-winner in the seventh for the Hoppers.
Madisonville got on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning when Cody White got a one-out triple and scored on a two-out single by Parker O'Dell to give the Pirates an early 1-0 lead.
Hoptown tied the game in the bottom of the third inning when Derek Ferch led off and got on base on a fielder's error, stole second and scored on a single by Mitch Huckabay.
The Pirates responded in the top of the fourth when O'Dell led off with a walk, was balked to second and went to third on a single by Samuel Gilbert. J.T. Arneman then hit a double down the right-field line to score O'Dell and Gilbert to give Madisonville a 3-1 lead.
Hoptown scored in the bottom of the fifth when Huckabay led off and got hit by a pitch, stole second and scored on a pinch-hit double by Brandon Powell. Powell then scored on a single by Brad Sevenish to tie the score at 3-3.
The Hoppers pushed ahead that inning when Beary hit a double to score Drew Allen, who pinch-ran for Sevenish, to give Hoptown a 4-3 lead.
Madisonville tied the game when pinch-hiter Dathan Prewett slapped his first pitch over the left-field wall to tie the game at 4-4.
The Hoppers put the game away when Drew Allen drew a two-out walk, followed by a single by Seth Larue. Beary again pushed across a run with a single to right-center field for the game-winner.
Beary went 2-for-4 for the Hoppers with a double and two runs batted in. Sevenish went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Allen scored twice for Hoptown.
Five batters had one hit each for Madisonville. Prewett hit a home run, Cody White had a triple and Brandon Powell and J.T. Atneman had doubles for the Pirates.
Ryne Long got the win in relief for the Hoppers, allowing one run on one hit, striking out two in one inning of work. Stewart Rich started for Hoptown, allowing three runs on four hits, striking out seven and walking two in six innings.
Kyle DeMeo took the loss, allowing one run on two hits, striking out two and walking two in 1 2/3 innings. Daniel Sharp started for the Pirates, allowing one unearned run on three hits, striking out three and walking three in four innings. Marc Noyalis pitched one-third of an inning, followed by Jack Coleman who allowed three runs on three hits, striking out one in two-thirds of an inning.
