The Madisonville Pirates defeated the Hoptown Hoppers, 6-2
In 7 innings. (From Hopkinsville) In Game 2, it was a defensive battle with Hoptown leading 2-1 going into the bottom of the seventh, but Madisonville scored five runs in the final inning for the win.
The Pirates scored first again, plating one in the top of the first when Jarod Perry led off with a single, went to second on a wild pitch, went to third on a single by Ty Broady and scored when Dathan Prewett hit a single to deep right field.
Hoptown tied the score in the bottom of the fifth when Brandon Powell led off with a single and went to third on a failed pickoff attempt. He scored on a sacrifice fly by Clayton Evans to tie the score at 1-1.
The Hoppers took the lead in the sixth when Matt McGowan led off with a single, went to second when Brad Sevenish walked, went to third on a fielder's choice and scored on a sac bunt by John Beary.
The Pirates' bats came to life in the seventh inning, as Madisonville plated five runs in the frame. Matt Sheneman led off with a single, went to second on a sacrifice bunt and took third on a groundout. Jarod Perry was hit by a pitch, and a single by Ty Broady drove in Sheneman and moved Perry to third, tying the game at 2-2t by a pitch to load the bases, chasing Hoptown starter Kyle Barbee.
Alfredo Bohorquez slapped a single, scoring Perry and Broady and sending Prewett to third, giving the Pirates a 4-2 lead. Joe Tipton walked to load the bases again, ans a single by C.J. Schildt scored Prewett and Bohorquez for the final tally.
Madisonville was led by Bohorquez, who wwent 2-for-4 with a run scored and two runs batted in, and Broady, who went 2-for-2 with a run and an RBI. Perry scored twice for the Pirates.
For Hoptown, Matt McGowant went 2-for-2.
On the mound, both starters pitched gems into the seventh inning. Heath Kelley got the win for Madisonville, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits, striking out five and walking five in six innings. Samuel Gilbert came on in the seventh, striking out two in his inning of work.
For Hoptown, Barbee took the loss, allowing three runs on five hits, striking out three and walking one in 6 2/3 innings. Trevor Blocker came on to get the final out of the inning, but allowed three runs on three hits and walked one in one-third of an inning.
