The Hoptown Hoppers defeated the Owensboro Oilers, 4-1
In 7 innings. (From Hopkinsville) The Hoptown Hoppers moved back into first place in the Ohio Valley League with a double-header sweep of Owensboro, winning 4-1 in the first game and 4-2 in the second game.
In the first game, Hoptown (11-6) got on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the second inning when Seth Larue hit a one-out double, went to third on a groundout and scored on an infield single by Trevor Lowe to give the Hoppers an early 1-0 lead.
The Hoppers scored again in the bottom of the fourth when Brad Sevenish led off with a double to left-center field then scored when Matt McGowan reached on a sacrifice attempt and took second on the errant throw. McGowan went to third on a groundout and scored on a single by Trevor Lowe to push the Hoppers' lead to 3-0.
Hoptown tacked on a run in the bottom of the fifth when Mitch Huckabay drew a one-out walk, stole second, went to third on a groundout and scored on a wild pitch to give the Hoppers a 4-0 lead.
Owensboro (9-7) got on the scoreboard in the top of the sixth inning when Hunter Newman hit a two-out solo home run to cut the Hoppers' lead to 4-1.
Hoptown was led at the plate by Lowe, who went 2-for-2 with two runs batted in. Sevenish and Larue each had doubles for the Hoppers.
Owensboro was paced by Tyler Tichenor and Newman, who each went 2-for-3. Newman had a double, a run and an RBI for the Oilers.
Jake Bell (2-0) got the complete-game win for Hoptown, allowing one run on six hits, striking out eight and walking none in seven innings.
Mason Morris (0-1) took the loss, allowing three runs (one earned) on four hits, walking one in four innings. Edwin Reyes came on in the fifth inning, allowing one run on no hits, striking out one and walking one in one inning. Austin Brunk pitched the sixth inning, striking out one.
