The Madisonville Pirates defeated the Fulton Railroaders, 3-1
(From Madisonville) The Pirates pitchers (14-13) held the Railroaders (17-12) in check at the plate for the night, and Robert Veltre (4-4, 1 HR, 1 RBI), Dathan Prewett (3-4, 2 RBI) and Joe Tipton (3-4, 2 R) provided the power behind the Pirates' 3-1 victory tonight in Elmer Kelley Stadium. Madisonville outhit Fulton, eleven to four, in picking up their fourteenth win of the season.
Madisonville got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second inning on a home run blast from Veltre to right-center. The Pirates picked up another run in the fifth on an RBI-single by Prewett, driving in Joe Tipton. Prewett drove in his second run of the night on a ground ball single in the seventh, scoring Tipton again.
The Railroaders scored their only run of the night when Alex Huddleston hit a sacrifice fly to left, driving in Taylor Douglas.
For the Pirates, starting and winning pitcher Daniel Sharp pitched five scoreless innings, scattering three, walking two, and striking out seven Railroaders. Chad Cox came on in relief and pitched the sixth inning, walking one and striking out one. Cox gave way to Trent Benningfield, who pitched two complete innings, allowing one hit, one run (earned) and whiffing three Railroaders. Samuel Gilbert earned the Save, pitching a scoreless ninth inning to close out the game. Gilbert registered one walk and one strikeout.
Fulton starter Thomas Huddleston took the Loss for the Railroaders, pitching seven complete innings. Huddleston gave up ten Pirates hits (including the home run by Veltre), three runs (all earned), and picked up five strikeouts. Sean Cunningham pitched one inning of relief, giving up one hit, one walk, and getting one strikeout.
Madisonville travels to Fulton Saturday night for a rematch. The game sets underway at 7:00 pm Central in "The Yard."
