The Hoptown Hoppers defeated the Marion Bobcats, 5-4
(From Hopkinsville) Hoptown gave up a 3-1 lead in the eighth inning, ceding three runs to visiting Marion, but the oppers rebounded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning to steal the 5-4 win.
Marion got on the scoreboard first in the top of the fifth inning when Austin Braddock hit a one-out single, went to second on a wild pitch and scored on a two-out single by Tyler Odom to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead.
Hoptown tied the game in the bottom of the inning when Mason Colquitt led off with a double, went to third on a single by Brandon Powell and scored on a double play to knot the game at 1-1.
The Hoppers extended their lead in the bottom of the sixth when Trevor Lowe hit a one-out single, went to third on a double by Seth Larue and scored on a balk, moving Larue to third. Larue scored on a single by John Beary to push Hoptown's lead to 3-1.
Marion retook the lead in the top of the eighth inning when Tyler Odom hit a one-out single, stole second and went to third on a single by Brooks Balisterri. Cody Brown walked to load the bases, and Odom scored when Clint Ambrosch hit into a fielder's choice. A double by Tyler Bonaventure scored Brown and Ambrosch to give the Bobcats a 4-3 lead.
Hoptown retook the lead in the bottom half of the inning when Mitch Huckabay reached on a walk, went to second on a sac bunt, went to third when Seth Larue reached on an error and scored on a bobbled throw. Clayton Evans, who pinch-ran for larue, scored on a single by Brad Sevenish to put Hoptown ahead 5-4.
Hoptown was led at the plate by Seth Larue, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run scored. Mason Colquitt also had a double for the Hoppers.
Marion was paced by Tyler Odom, who went 2-for-3 with a run and a run batted in. Clint Ambrosch and Tyler Bonaventure doubled for the Bobcats, and Bonaventure had two RBIs.
Trevor Blocker, who gave up the lead to Marion, claimed the win for the Hoppers, allowing three runs on three hits, striking out one and walking one in two innings. Jake Bell started for Hoptown, allowing one run on three hits, striking out seven and walking two in seven innings.
For Marion, Trevor Guthrie took the loss in relief, allowing two unearned runs on one hit, striking out one and walking one inn one inning. Dylan Stewart started for the Bobcats, allowing three runs on seven hits, striking out three and walking two in 5 1/3 innings. Scooter Hightower came on in the sixth inning, allowing no hits and striking out one in 1 2/3 innings.
