The Owensboro Oilers defeated the Dubois County Bombers, 9-8
The Owensboro Oilers sprang out to a huge lead, then edged out the visiting DC Bombers comeback to win their Saturday night game by the final score of 9 to 8.
Owensboro scored four runs in both the bottom of the 1st and 2nd innings. Scoring in the 1st were: Tyler Tichenor (double), Cameron Wallace (RBI single), Logan Leverett (RBI single), and Christian McHatton (single). Cody Rogers also had a RBI single in the inning. Scoring in the 2nd were: Tichenor (single), McHatton (fielder's choice), Rogers (2-RBI single), and Hunter Newman (ground rule double)Austin Edge also had a 2-RBI double in the inning. After the 2nd inning the home team led 8-0.
The Bombers shifted offensive momentum in the game with three runs in the top of the 4th inning. Scoring were Casey Ryan (walk), Eric McKibban (walk), and Bo Ausmus (RBI double). Andre Davis and Dane Giesler had back to back RBI groundouts in the inning. DC closed the score to 8-7 with four more runs in the top of the 5th inning. Scoring were: Jarrett Young (single), Kyle Schwinghamer (walk), Ryan (bunt), and McKibban (RBI HBP). Davis had a RBI sacrifice fly in the inning. The Bombers finally made it an 8 to 8 tie with one run in the top of the 8th inning. Young walked, was sacrifice bunted to second base, went to third base on a defensive error, and scored on a passed ball.
The Oilers responded in the the bottom of the 9th inning by storming after the one run needed to win before weather took the chance away. Tyler Tichenor led off by reaching on an error. He stole second and third bases, even as the Bombes were trying to prevent Cameron Wallace from bunting. With Tichenor at third base and no outs, Dubois County issued free passes to both Wallace and Leverett. A wild third pitch to Christian McHatton eluded the the visiting catcher and Tichenor scored the walk-off run.
Owensboro reliever Edwin Reyes was the the pitcher of record for the win. DC reliever Clint Chestnut worked the 8th inning, and faced all the Oilers batting in the 9th for the loss.
