The Fulton Railroaders defeated the Owensboro Oilers, 5-2
(From Fulton) The Railroaders' victory over the Oilers on Friday resumes their pace on first place Hoptown, remaining 3 1/2 games behind the Hoppers who won over the DC Bombers. Owensboro slipped one game further at 6 games back, and now tied with Madisonville in third as the Pirates win beating up the Bobcats.
Fulton scored three runs in the first inning; one from Oiler error and balk followed by a two RBI homerun by Ramon Valdez. Both teams remained scoreless through the sixth inning.
Top of the seventh; the Oilers finally closed to within one after Hunter Newman lead off with a double and Ian Foegi hit a two run homerun. The Railroaders answered and added two more runs in the bottom half of the seventh. Kyle Simmons doubled to start the inning, batted to third and scored on a wild pitch. Taylor Douglas added another with a sacrifice fly scoring Hunter Owen on third who had singled and advance on two wild pitches. The scoring completed at 5-2.
Starter Colin Hatch earned his 3rd win going 7 innings allowing 6 hits, 2 earned runs, 3 walks and striking out 9 at the plate. Sean Cunningham threw the eighth and Caleb Shelley finished the ninth picking up his 7th Save on the season.
Shane Weedman takes the loss and pitched a good 6 innings, giving up 5 hits, tagged for 5 runs (one unearned), walked 2 and had 8 strikeouts. Jason Jones completed the final two innings for Owensboro.
The two teams meet again on Saturday in Owensboro for a second game.
