The Hoptown Hoppers defeated the Madisonville Pirates, 2-1

(From Hopkinsville)  Homestanding Hoptown and Madisonville fought a defensive battle with the Hoppers coming out on top 2-1.

     Hoptown hit the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning when Trevor Lowe led off with a walk, stole second and third and scored on a groundout to give the Hoppers a 1-0 lead.

The Hoppers scored in the bottom of the second when Seth Larue led off with a single, stole second, went to third on a fielding error and scored on a double play to give Hoptown a 2-0 lead.

Madisonville got on the scoreboard when Matt Sheneman led off with a home run to cut the Hoptown lead to 2-1.

     Madisonville got a threat going in the top of the eighth inning when Shawn Williamson walked and Joe Tipton got a bunt single. Both runners moved up on a sacrifice bunt, and Dathan Prewett was walked intentionally to load the bases. Pitcher Reese Johnson was able to strike out Garrett Emling for the second out of the inning, and coaxed a flyout from Robert Veltre to quash the threat.

Hoptown finished the game with two hits and three walks, while Madisonville had five hits and four walks.

     Henry Rowland had a double for the Hoppers, while Matt Sheneman had a solo home run and Austin Shives and Alfredo Bohorquez each had doubles for the Pirates.

     Starter Colin Lee got the win for Hoptown, allowing one run on five hits, striking out seven and walking two in seven innings. Reese Johnson pitched the eighth inning, allowing no hits, striking out one and walking one. Craig Caufield pitched the ninth inning and got the save, allowing no hits, striking out one and walking one.

     Starter Daniel Sharp took the loss for the Pirates, allowing two runs on two hits, striking out three and walking three in seven innings. Samuel Gilbert pitched the eighth inning, allowing no hits.
