The Hoptown Hoppers defeated the Owensboro Oilers, 4-3

(From Hopkinsville)  In a game that featured more errors than runs scored, the Hoptown Hoppers beat visiting Owensboro 4-3 in an exciting last inning.

     Hoptown got on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the third inning when Mitch Huckabay drew a two-out walk, went to third on a single by John Beary and took home as part of a double-steal to give the Hoppers a 1-0 lead.

     Hoptown struck again with two unearned runs in the bottom of the seventh when Zac Carter reached on an error, went to second on a bunt single by Derek Ferch. A sacrifice bunt moved the runners up a base, and John Beary was walked intentionally to load the bases. Carter scored on a wild pitch and Ferch scored on a fielder's choice to give the Hoppers a 3-1 lead.

     Owensboro got those runs back in the top of the eighth inning when Logan Leverett reached on an error and took second on a wild pitch. Cody Rogers reached on a two-out walk and Hunter Newman walked to load the bases. Austin Edge singled in Leverett and Rogers scored on a fielding error to narrow the Hoppers' lead to 3-2.

The Oilers tied the score in the top of the ninth inning when Tyler Tichenor led off with a single and went to second on a sac bunt, scoring on a throwing error to tie the game at 3-3.

     The Hoppers won the gamewhen John Beary led off the bottom of the ninth with a single. Seth Larue laid down a sacrifice bunt, but no one was covering third base, allowing Beary to advance to third. Oilers reliever Edwin Reyes tried to pick Beary off, but the throw went wild and Beary scored the winning run.

     For the Hoppers, John Beary went 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Henry Rowland went 2-for-3 with a double.

     Owensboro was paced by Tyler Tichenor, who went 2-for-5 with a run, and Austin Edge, who went 2-for-3 with a run batted in.

     Trevor Blocker got the win in relief for the Hoppers, allowing two unearned runs on two hits, striking out one and walking two in 1 1/3 innings. Geordie Carlson started for Hoptown, allowing no runs on three hits, striking out five and walking four in seven innings. Mason Colquitt came on in the eighth inning, allowing one unearned run on no hits and striking out two in two-thirds of an inning.

     Edwin Reyes took the loss for Owensboro, allowing one unearned run on two hits, striking out one and walking one in 1 2/3 innings. Cameron Wallace started for the Oilers, allowing three runs (one earned) on five hits, striking out one and walking four in 6 2/3 innings.
