The Dubois County Bombers defeated the Owensboro Oilers, 2-1

(From Owensboro) The Owensboro Oilers lost their final game of the 2013 regular season Wednesday night to the visiting Dubois County Bombers. The final score was 2 to 1 for the visiting team Though the game was only the 44th of the 45-game schedule for the Oilers, a League decision canceled the remaining game -- a rainout makeup -- in favor of moving ahead to the playoffs.
The game remained scoreless until the Oilers scored one run in the bottom of the 6th inning. Tyler Tichenor led off the home inning with a single. Cody Rogers walked behind him. Tichenor and Rogers executed a double steal as Dalton West batted. The throw to second base escaped to the outfield, allowing Tichenor to score.
Owensboro starting pitcher Christian McHatton held Dubois County hitless through six complete innings, but they scored one run against him in both the visitors' 8th and 9th innings. In the top of the 8th Eric McKibban was hit by a pitch with two outs. He moved to second base on a wild pitch, and reached third base on a defensive error. McKibban scored the tying run on a RBI single by  Chris Tavares. In their 9th inning, Jarret Young bunted his way on. A strikeout later, he went to second base on a passed ball, and moved to third base on single. He scored on a RBI squeeze bunt by Shain Showers. Dubois County led 2 to 1 going to the bottom of the 9th inning.
Owensboro mounted a two-out rally. Stone Osborne singled and Austin Edge followed with a double to right field. Osborne's potential tying run was cut down at the plate -- ending the game.
Starter Nolan Schaefer picked up the win for the Bombers and A.J. Vasquez earned a save. Owensboro starter Christian McHatton had observably his best performance of the summer season. Though he took the loss, his complete game effort saved other valuable pitching. Hopefully that will payoff in the playoffs.
