The Owensboro Oilers defeated the Dubois County Bombers, 5-4
(From Dubois County) The Owensboro Oilers spoiled championship hopes for the Dubois County Bombers, beating the Bombers 5-4 and ending the Bombers inaugural season as members of the OVL. The Bombers finish the season with a (22-24) record.
Owensboro jumped out of the gate first, scoring a run in the 1st and adding two more runs in the 3rd to take a three run lead. The Bombers responded by scoring three times in the home half of the 3rd inning, Chris Tavares' solo homerun tied the game at 3. In the 4th, Owensboro regained the lead on Cody Rogers' RBI single and kept the lead until Rick Linton drove in the tying run in the 5th for the Bombers on a RBI single.
With the game tied 4-4 going into the 9th, Rogers doubled to lead things off for the Oilers. After a groundout, Christian McHatton delivered the biggest hit of the night, a RBI double that just fell out of the reach of a diving Kyle Schwinghamer of the Bombers. The ball rolled away and the Oilers took the lead 5-4. Bo Lewington then sat the Bombers down in order in the 9th to win 5-4.
The Oilers out hit the Bombers fourteen to five in the contest and amassed five doubles and a triple in the contest. Tavares led the Bombers with two extra base hits on the evening, a double and a solo homerun that landed on the old-time scoreboard. Kyle Schwinghamer, Eric McKibban, and Rick Linton also registered a hit. McKibban and Linton both had scoring singles.
Bo Lewington worked out of the bullpen to earn the win and reliever Jonathan Williams suffered the loss. Kyle Briner started the game for the Bombers going five innings. Shane Weedman got the start for Owensboro, he pitched the first 5 2/3 innings. Both starting pitcher gave up four runs but Weedman only was charged with two earned runs but on the other hand, Briner took all four runs earned. Clint Chestnut was the other Bomber to pitch. Chestnut gave up the go ahead hit but the run was charged to Williams who took the loss.
