The Hoptown Hoppers defeated the Owensboro Oilers, 8-2
(From Hopkinsville) Trailing Owensboro 2-1 in the middle of the fourth inning, the host Hoptown Hoppers tied the game in the bottom of the fourth, then took the lead for good in the fifth inning en route to the 8-2 final. The Hoppers scored the last seven runs of the game.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Hoptown's Chris Brown reached on a fielder's choice, stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Geordie Carlson to tie the game at 2-2.
In the fifth inning, Michael Haun led off with a double and scored on a single by Ben Fisher, who went to second on a fielding error. Tyler Harris singled in Fisher to give the Hoppers a 4-2 lead.
The Hoppers (3-0) plated a run in the sixth inning and three in the eighth for the win.
The Oilers (1-1) scored both of their runs in the fourth inning when Tyler Adams drew a one-out walk and Jake Krupar doubled him home. Kyle Floyd hit a single to left to bring Krupar to third, but the ball got past the fielder, allowing Krupar to score and give Owensboro a 2-1 lead.
Hoptown was led at the plate by Haun, Fisher and Jeffrey Kammer, who each went 2-for-4. kammer and Haun each had doubles for the Hoppers, while Fisher had a game-high three runs batted in. Haun, Fisher and Sean Brophy each scored a game-high two runs for Hoptown.
Owensboro was paced by Floyd, who went 2-for-4 for the Oilers. Krupar had a double for Owensboro along with a run and the team's sole RBI.
On the mound, Evan Tidwell (1-0) got the win for Hoptown, allowing two runs on five hits, striking out two and walking one in six innings of work. Tidwell gave way to Heath Petty in the seventh, who allowed no runs on no hits, striking out three and walking one in two innings. Taylor Blair pitched two outs in the ninth inning, allowing one hit, and Josh Drake finished the game, giving up a hit in one-third of an inning.
For Owensboro, Tanner Edge (0-1) took the loss, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits, striking out three and walking three in 4 2/3 innings. Trent Benningfield came on in the fifth, allowing one run on two hits, striking out one and walking two in an inning of work. Kevin Meyer entered in the sixth, allowing no runs on no hits and striking out one in 1 1/3 innings, while Morgan Grisham gave up three runs on three hits, striking out one and walking one in one-third of an inning in the eighth. Brandon Jean shut it down for the Oilers, allowing no hits in two-thirds of an inning.
The game began after a half-hour rain delay, pushing the start of the game to 7:30 p.m.
