The Hoptown Hoppers defeated the Owensboro Oilers, 6-4
(From Owensboro) The Owensboro Oilers lost their home game Friday night to the visiting Hopkinsville Hoppers. The final score was Hoppers 6 to Oilers 4.
The Hoppers scored four runs in their first three inning, while the Oilers scored only one run through their first five at-bats. For Hopkinsville, Jefferey Kramer reached base in the 1st inning on a two-out dropped third strike passed ball, then scored as Chris Carrier RBI tripled. In the 2nd inning Chris Brown hit a two-out single, stole second base, then scored on a RBI single from Anthony Gonzalez In the 3rd inning Kramer reached base on a fielder's choice, and Carrier was intentionally walked. Scotty Adkins followed with an RBI single that plated Kramer, and a resulting error allowed Carrier in as well.
Owensboro countered with a run in the 2nd inning. Christian McHatton led off the home inning with a walk. He advanced two more bases on separate wild pitches, then scored via a RBI fielder's choice off the bat of Taylor Mathews. At the end of five innings the score was 4 to 1 in the Hoppers favor. The Oilers tied the score with two runs in the bottom of the 6th inning and one run in the bottom of the 7th inning. In the home 6th, Tyler Rachel singled and moved to second base when Jake Wilson walked behind him. A fly-out later, Dalton West walked to load the bases. Justin Cessna delivered the 2 RBI single that brought Rachel and Wilson home. In the Oiler 7th, Braxton Brinkley reached on an error. He was sacrifice bunted to second base, a groundout pushed him over to third base. Brinkley scored from there on a wild pitch. At the end of seven innings it was a new ball game, tied 4 to 4.
The home hopes of newness in the contest faded against a familiar pattern on the night. Hopkinsville scored twice in the top of the 8th inning with two outs. With one out, Kramer singled, and gave way to pinch-runner Geordie Carlson. A strikeout later, pinch-hitter Taylor Ellis walked, sending Carlson to second base. Both runners moved up on a wild pitch. They both scored on Sean Brophy's 2 RBI single. The Hoppers came away from the visitor 8th leading again, 6 to 4. That score stood to become final.
Hopkinsville late reliever Trevor Blocker picked up the win while Owensboro reliever Cable Wright took the loss for the Oilers.
