The Owensboro Oilers defeated the Dubois County Bombers, 7-6
(From Owensboro) The Owensboro Oilers outlasted the visiting Dubois County Bombers to win a Monday night ballgame by the final score of 7 to 6 for the home team.
The Bombers scored first with one run in the top of the 3rd inning. Rick Linton led off the visitor inning with a walk. He was sacrifice bunted to second base, and moved to third base on a groundout. Linton scored on a RBI single by Glenn Jones. DC added two runs in the the top of the 6th inning. Caleb Lonkard and Jones both walked consecutively. The runners were sacrificed ahead to third base and second base respectively. A fly out and a hit batter later, Tirey Burch singled for RBIs of Lonkard and Jones. Heading into the bottom of the sixth inning the visitors led 3 to 0.
The Oilers made it a game with one run in the bottom of the 6th inning. Austin Bartle led off with a walk. After a fly out, Alfredo Bohorques was hit by a pitch, positioning Bartle on second base. A strikeout followed before Tyler Rachel delivered an RBI single to plate Bartle. Owensboro took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the 7th inning. Kyle Floyd led off with a double and gave way to pinch-runner Tyler Adams. A groundout moved Adams on to third base. Cable Wright and Jake Wilson walked back to back, loading the bases. Caleb Johnson pinch-ran for Wilson. A strikeout followed. Bohorques returned to the plate and drove in both Adams and Wright with a 2 RBI single while Johnson moved to third base. As Bohorques stole second base, Johnson stole home for the inning's third tally. The momentum shift in the game seemed complete when the Oilers added two more runs in the bottom of the 8th inning. Rachel led off by reaching on an error. A sacrifice bunt moved him along to second base. Rachel scored on a RBI single by Dalton West. Justin Cessna followed with a single, that and and groundout pushed West to third base. He scored from there on a wild pitch. After eight complete innings the Oilers led the Bombers by a 6 to 3 score.
Moving momentum must love dramatic baseball. The Bombers rallied for three runs in the top of the 9th inning to tie the game. Linton and Lonkard walked back to back to start the inning. A fly out and a ground out set runners at first base and third bases before Jones walked too to load the bases. Joe Redburn made the most his opportunity with a 2 RBI single that brought in Linton and Lonkard, and fielding the hit resulted in a two base-error that allowed Jones to score as well while sending Redburn all the way to third base. The Bombers managed to reload the bases on a walk and a hit batter -- but a fielder's choice put out saved the 6 to 6 tie.
Momentum had one last shift in it for the night as the Oilers promptly scored one run in the bottom of the 9th inning to win the game. Braxton Brinkley led off with a double. Bohorques was intentionally walked to get to Christian McHatton, who perfectly executed a bunt down the third base line to load the bases with nobody out. Tyler Rachel returned to the plate and sent everybody home with his second single and second RBI of the game, bringing in Brinkley.
The final hurlers of the evening for both clubs were the pitchers of record. Oilers reliever Kevin Myer got the win, while Bomber reliever DJ Eckert took the loss.
