The Owensboro Oilers defeated the Hoptown Hoppers, 4-3
In 9 innings. (From Owensboro). The Owensboro Oilers hosted the Hopkinsville Hoppers for a Thursday twi-night doubleheader of games slated for seven innings each. Competition ignored the shorter format, as Owensboro completed a comeback with a winning run in the bottom of the 9th inning to win Game 1 by a 4 to 3 final score. The home team also took a narrow early lead and held on to a Game 2 win in a 2 to 1 outcome.
In Game 1: The Hoppers scored one run in the top of the 3rd inning. With two out, John Davis was hit by a pitch. Mitchell Gallagher followed with an RBI double. Hopkinsville made it 2 to 0 in the top of the 4th inning. Chris Carrier singled, then advanced to second base on an error. Carrier was sacrificed over to third base. He scored from there on a wild pitch.
The Oilers answered with one run in the bottom of the 4th inning. Alfredo Bohorques singled, then stole second base. Jake Wilson walked. Both runners were advanced by a sacrifice. Christian McHatton drove in Bohorques with an RBI groundout. Owensboro tied the game with one run in the bottom of the 5th inning. Jake Krupar led off with a triple. He scored on a two-out RBI single by Morgan Grisham.
Back came the Hoppers, scoring a run in the top of the 6th inning. With one out, Carrier walked, then stole second base. Taylor Ellis followed with a two-base RBI sacrifice fly, as Carrier scored.
The Oilers got that run back in the bottom of the same inning. Wilson led off with a double, and he was sacrificed along to third base. McHatton's sacrifice fly was his second RBI of the game, bringing Wilson in. After six complete innings, the game was a 3 to 3 tie.
The contest was still knotted going into the bottom of the 9th inning. With one out, Austin Bartle singled. Dalton West walked. Bartle stole third base. Taylor Mathews RBI singled, scoring Bartle, and ending the game 4 to 3 in Owensboro's favor.
The winning pitcher was Owensboro reliever Mark Chemello. The losing pitcher was Hopkinsville reliever Trevor Blocker.
