The Hoptown Hoppers defeated the Fulton Railroaders, 6-5
(From Hopkinsville) The homestanding Hoptown Hoppers spoiled a late rally by Fulton, scoring a run in the bottom of the ninth to steal a 6-5 win Friday.
Hoptown (2-4) opened the game with four runs in the bottom of the first, but Fulton (4-3) plated three in the top of the ninth to tie the game at 5-5.
In the bottom of the ninth, Hoptown's Matt Dunleavy drew a one-out walk, as did Neil Williams and Jimmy Cubillos to load the bases. Reliever Kyle Estand came on to face Ernie de la Trinidad, who hit a grounder between first and second. Estand fielded the ball with his back to the plate, turned and fired to home in an effort to prevent Dunlevy from scoring, but he crossed the plate ahead of the throw for the game-winner.
Hoptown was led at the plate by de la Trinidad. who went 3-for-5 with a run, a run batted in and two stolen bases, and John Davis, who went 3-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Chris Jones went 2-for-5 with a double and Dunlevy had two RBIs. The Hoppers left 15 runners on base.
Fulton was paced y Tyler Hilton, who went 3-for-4 with a double, and Griffin Neuer. who went 2-for-5 with a solo home run, two runs scored and two RBIs. The Railroaders left nine runners on base.
Jordan Martin (1-1) got the win, allowing no hits and no runs. Parker Cash started the game for the Hoppers, allowing two runs on seven hits, striking out four and walking three in seven innings. Christian Myers came on in the eighth, striking out one and walking two in an inning. Jordan Reynolds got credit for a full inning in the ninth, allowing three runs on two hits and walking one.
For Fulton, Greg Casper (0-1) took the loss, allowing one run on no hits, striking out one and walking five in 1 1/3 innings. Lee Haeberle started for the Railroaders, allowing five runs on 11 hits, striking out five and walking four in 4 2/3 innings. Justin Hayden came on in the fifth, allowing no runs on one hit, striking out one and walking one in 1 1/3 innings. Chandler Amason started the seventh, striking out one in one inning of work. Amason was relieved by Casper in the eighth, and Estand faced on batter in the ninth.
