The Hoptown Hoppers defeated the Dubois County Bombers, 3-2
(From Hopkinsville) Hoptown shortstop Mitch Gallagher made a great defensive play in the top of the 10th inning, knocking down a ball hit up the middle to turn a double play, then became the offensive hero with a walk-off double to beat visiting Dubois County 3-2 n 12 innings.
The game was scoreless in the first four innings until the Bombers (4-4) hit the scoreboard in the top of the fifth. Devyn Newberry led off with a double, moved to second and scored on a groundout by Jacob Snodgrass to give Dubois County a 1-0 lead.
The Hoppers (3-4) got a run in the bottom of the sixth when Chris Jones reached on an error, went to second on a groundout then scored on a single by Jimmy Cubillos to tie the score at 1-1.
Dubois County took the lead again in the seventh inning when Newberry was hit a pitch and Noah Sadler drew a one-out walk. Newberry scored on a fielder's choice to give the lead back to the Bombers, 2-1.
Hoptown retied the game in the bottom of the ninth when Ernie de la Trinidad led off with a single, went to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a single by Will Olson to knot the score at 2-2.
In the bottom of the 12th, Chris Jones hit a one-out singled scored on the Gallagher double to give the Hoppers the 3-2 extra-inning win.
Gallagher went 2-for-2 with a double and a run batted in. de la Trinidad went 2-for-6 with a run scored, while Olson went 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI, Jones went 2-for-6 with two runs and Jimmy Cubillos went 2-for-5 with an RBI. The Hoppers left 15 runners on base, but turned four double plays.
Dubois County was paced by Greg Jones, who went 2-for-5. Newberry had a double and scored both runs, while Jacob Snodgrass had both RBIs for the Bombers, who left 12 runners on base.
Christian Myers (1-2) got the win in relief for the Hoppers, allowing no runs on no hits, striking out three and walking two in three innings. Bryan Cruse started for Hoptown, allowing two runs on three hits, striking out two and walking six in 6 1/3 innings. Jordan Martin came on in the seventh, allowing two hits and striking out one in 2 2/3 innings.
Zach Freeman took the loss for the Bombers, allowing two runs on six hits, striking out five and walking one in 5 2/3 innings. Lucas Barnett started for Dubois County, allowing one unearned run on four hits, striking out four and walking five in six innings.
