The Fulton Railroaders defeated the Owensboro Oilers, 8-0
(From Fulton) Eddie Mathis handed the home team Railroaders (5-3) a complete game shutout over the visiting Owensboro Oilers (4-4). For his 9 inning winning effort, Mathis (1-0) allowed 4 hits, one walk and struck out 9 batters, and got his first win on the season from two starts.
Fulton's offense on the evening produced 11 hits which included a John Anderson (1-for-3) 2 RBI homerun in the second inning to start the scoring for the Railroaders. Jacob Elliott was 3-for-4, scored 2 and had a RBI. Griffin Neuer went 3-for-5 with a RBI and run scored. Brad Baldwin was 2-for-3 with 2 RBI.
The Oilers' best opportunity to score was in the first inning where they got 2 of their total 4 hits. Tyler Tichenor started the game with bunt single and made second off a Alferdo Bohorques sacrifice bunt. Ty Broader followed with an infield single as the Railroaders held Tichenor at second base. Tichenor then tryed to steal third but a 1-5 throw caught him to end the threat.
Taking the loss for Owensboro is Ryan Flores who went for 3 1/3 innings. John Hakmoller handle 2 2/3 innings with Ben Rhodes and Tyler Solomon completing an inning each to finish the game.
The win puts the Railroaders on top in the standings by a game over the Oilers and Bomber (4-4) who were idle tonight. The Hoppers and Miners were rained out, both teams 1.5 games back. The standings remain tight.
