The Fulton Railroaders defeated the Owensboro Oilers, 8-3
(From Fulton) The Railroaders (7-5) took advantage of the Owensboro Oilers (4-8) pitching and cruised to an 8-3 victory in Fulton.
An early first inning lead for Fulton came when Griffin Neuer (2-for-4) walked, advanced to second on a sac bunt, made third on a wild pitch then scored off a sacrifice fly by Brad Baldwin (0-for-2). The Railroaders added a second run in the fifth after Tyler Hilton (2-for-3) singled, stole second and scored off a RBI ground ruled double by Luca Eliason (1-for-3) to make the score 2-0..
With two outs in the sixth, the Railroaders extended their lead putting up 3 more runs using a Kyle Uhrich (1-for-4) double to start, followed by a series of 4 walks and 2 wild pitches.
The Oilers finally got on the board in the top of the seventh.. Ty Broader (0-for-2) walked to lead off the inning, Braxton Morris (1-for-3) was hit by pitch and Conner McHugh (1-for-4) singled to load the bases for Owensboro. Tyler Shewmaker (1-for-4) then grounded into a double play that sent one run across home plate. A Josh Wetzel (1-for-4) single drove in Morris from third to make the score 5-2.
The Railroaders answered in the bottom half of the seventh with 3 runs using 2 hits, 2 Oiler errors, a wild pitch and second sacrifice fly from Brad Baldwin.
With score now 8-2, the Oilers manage their final run in the eight inning. Alfredo Bohorquies (1-for-3) singled, advance to third on a pinch hit by Riley Benner, and scored from a Ty Broady sacrifice fly.
Fulton starter Lee Haeberle (2-0) earned his second win for 6 2/3 innings on the mound. Haeberle allowed 4 hits, 2 runs (one earned), walked 3 and struck out 5 batters. Trey Tigart threw 1 1/3 innings and Kyle Ward for one inning to close out for the Railroaders.
Taking the loss for Owensboro was starter Damon Davis who went 5 2/3 innings, giving up 4 hits, 5 earned runs, 3 walks and no strikeouts. Relievers Peyton Johnson, Trey Robledo, and Tyler Solomon completed the evening for the Oilers.
The Railroaders continue in Fulton on Sunday hosting the Miners who were rained out on the night in Madisonville. The Oilers head to Dubois County on Sunday to take on the Bombers.
