The Fulton Railroaders defeated the Hoptown Hoppers, 9-3
(From Hopkinsville) The Fulton Railroaders and Hoptown Hoppers started early and played late in their double-header in Hopkinsville on Monday, starting their first game at 5:09 p.m. and making the last out of the latter game at 11:37 p.m., splitting the games with Fulton winning the first game 9-3 and the Hoppers finally getting the second game 4-3 in 13 innings.
In the first game, the Hoppers (7-10) scored in the first inning when Ernie de la Trinidad led off with a single, went to second on a sacrifice bunt, went to third on a single by Will Olson and scored on a single by Matt Crowder to give Hoptown an early 1-0 lead.
In the third inning, Hoptown scored again, when John Davis reached on a two-base error, went to third on a groundout and scored on a Crowder single to put the Hoppers ahead 2-0.
Fulton (10-8) had been retired in order in the first three innings, but batted around in the fourth and fifth innings, plating three runs in the fourth when Griffin Neuer led off with a walk and Tyler Hilton and Brad Baldwin each had bunt singles to load the bases. A wild pitch scored Neuer and moved the runners up a base, and Kyle Uhrich walked to load the bases again. Hilton scored on a sac fly and Lucas Eliason singled in Baldwin to give the Railroaders a 3-2 lead.
Hoptown scored a run in the fourth when Hunter Losekamp drew a two-out walk, went to second on a de la Trinidad single and scored on a double by John Davis to knot the game at 3-3.
In the Fulton fifth, the Railroaders scored three more runs when Neuer led off with a single, went to second on an error and scored on a single by Baldwin. Uhrich singled Baldwin to third, and Tyler Bearden walked to load the bases. A wild pitch scored Baldwin, and an Eliason single plated Uhrich to five Fulton a 6-3 lead.
The Railroaders added two more runs in the sixth inning with back-to-back home runs by Baldwin and Uhrich. Fulton tacked on the final run in the seventh inning when Kipp Moore walked, went to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on an Eliason single for the final 9-3 tally.
Fulton was led at the plate by Baldwin, who went 3-for-4 with a home run, three runs scored and two runs batted in. Uhrich went 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs and an RBI, while Eliason went 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Neuer scored two runs for the Railroaders.
Hoptown was paced by Crowder, who went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Davis, who had a double.
Charlie Hecht (2-1) got the win in relief for Fulton, allowing one hit, striking out three and walking one in 2 1/3 innings. Kyle Ward started for the Railroaders, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits, striking out three and walking three in 3 2/3 innings. Kyle Estand pitched the seventh inning for Fulton, allowing a hit and walking one.
Jordan Martin (1-2) took the loss for Hoptown in relief, allowing six runs on seven hits, striking out three and walking four in 3 1/3 innings. Will Bishop started for the Hoppers, allowing three runs on three hits, striking out three and walking three in 3 2/3 innings.
