The Hoptown Hoppers defeated the Owensboro Oilers, 4-3
(From Owensboro) The Owensboro Oilers locked into a tight, quickly-played Thursday night home game with the visiting Hopkinsville Hoppers. The guests took a late advantage on an unearned run to win by the final score of 4 to 3.
Owensboro scored first with one run in the bottom of the 1st inning. Ben Rhodes led off for the home team with a single. One out late, Tyler Tichenor singled and Rhodes went to third base. Riley Benner followed with a RBI single scoring Benner for the inning's run. The home team led 1 to 0.
The Hoppers tied things up with one run in the top of the 2nd inning. Will Olson led off with a double. An out later, Olson came in on an RBI single by Zac Sanders. Hopkinsville took the lead with two more runs in the top of the 3rd inning. With two away, Bo Coolen singled. Trent Turner followed with a 2- RBI home run to left field. Heading into the 3rd inning, the visitors led 3 to 2.
The Oilers answered with two runs in the bottom of the 4th inning. Tichenor led off with a walk and Benner hit an equalizing 2-RBI home run for the home team out over left field as well. That re-tied the game at 3 to 3 -- all three Oilers RBIs being Benner's.
There was no scoring again until the Hoppers scored the difference-maker in the top of the 9th inning. Two outs deep into the frame, Matt Cogen reached on an error. He scored as Bo Coolen drove an RBI double to the base of the wall in right-center. Hopkinsville went ahead 4 to 3. Owensboro went down in order in the bottom of the 9th and the score became final.
Hopkinsville stayed with starter Brady Walsh for the complete game win. The Oilers loss falls on Tyler Solomon in spite of three innings in relief of a quality start from Jacob Watkins.
