The Hoptown Hoppers defeat the Paducah Chiefs, 20-1
(From Hopkinsville) The homestanding Hoptown Hoppers gave a rude welcome to the Paducah Chiefs in their first game in the Ohio Valley League, scoring 10 runs in the first seven innings and tacking on 10 more in the eighth for the 20-1 win in the season-opener for both teams.
Both teams had struggling pitchers, as winner Casey Queener (1-0) threw 99 pitches in the first five innings, while Paducah starter Dakota Head (0-1) threw 51 pitches in the first 2 2/3 innings before being ejected.
The most forgettable inning for Paducah was the eighth inning, where nine of the 10 runs were unearned. Clay Newton started the inning and threw 43 pitches to the first nine batters without getting an out. He and Jordan Adesi combined to throw 78 pitches in the eighth inning, 53 before recording an out.
Hoptown slapped 15 hits in the game, led by Matt Crowder, who went 3-for-6. Wendell Champion had two doubles for the Hoppers, while Chase Schmittou and Grant Robbins each had one.
Paducah didn't help its cause with just three hits and eight errors in the field.
