The Dubois County Bombers defeat the Owensboro Oilers, 8-6

(From Owensboro) The Owensboro Oilers rallied hard in the 9th inning, but did not catch up to the visiting Dubois County Bombers on Thursday night. The final score was Bombers 8 to Oilers 6. Dubois Co. scored first with two runs in the top of the first inning. Scoring were Buddy Johnson (single, stolen base) and Logan Brown (RBI double with Zack Grey collecting an RBI for the sacrifice fly that scored Brown. The Bombers added a run in the top of the 3rd inning. This time Johnson tripled with one out, then scored on Brown's RBI ground out. Dubois Co. pushed the lead out to 6-0 with three runs in the top of the 5th inning. Ben Balgaard (walk), Johnson (single) and Brown (RBI single) each scored. Johnson scored via a wild pitch while Macy Holdsworth had the RBI sacrifice fly to score Brown.

Trailing 6 to 0, Owensboro found offensive traction with a run in the bottom of the 5th. Bailey Montgomery's solo RBI home run did the job nicely. The Oilers closed to 6-2 with a run in the bottom of the 7th inning. Nick Lugo led off with a single and consecutive walks pushed him to third base. Lugo scored on an RBI sacrifice fly by Montgomery.
The Bombers reasserted their lead with two runs in the top of the 8th inning. Connor Moroder reached on an error. Miles Hardy and Peyton Hartbank singled consecutively to load the bases. Both scored on a 2-RBI single off the bat of Brown. The visitor lead grew to 8-2.

The two runs in the top of the 8th inning made the difference against a four run Oiler rally in the bottom of the 9th inning. Lugo (hit by a pitch), Peyton Sawyer (walk), Bryce Windham (walk), and Joe Stucky (reached on an error) all crossed the plate. Joe Silva collected the one RBI single in an inning extended by two defensive errors. A strikeout finally ended the game with the visiting team up by the final score of 8 to 6.

The winning pitcher was Bombers starter Austin Krizan. The losing pitcher was Owensboro starter Matt Walczak. The final Dubois Co. pitcher did not enter the game in a save situation.
