The Hoptown Hoppers defeat the Madisonville Miners, 4-3
(From Hopkinsville) The Hoptown Hoppers (16-1) extend their win streak to 9 with a 4-3 win against the visiting Madisonville Miners. The Hoppers scored 4 runs off of 12 hits with 2 errors and the Miners scored 3 runs off 6 hits and no errors. Riley Richert (1-0) earns his first win of the season with the save going to Gavin Alvarez his second of the season. Colin Hudson (0-1) gets the loss for the Miners.
The Miners got on the board first with an unearned run in the top of the first. Collin Dupree reached on a single and was advanced home on subsequent errors by the Hoppers. The Hoppers responded with a run in the bottom of the first with Chase Schmittou being driven home by Andrew Gross who leads the league in RBI's.
The Hoppers took the lead in the bottom of the third inning with an RBI double by DJ Lewis driving in Schmittou who reached base on a single. Schmittou would go 2-4 on the night with an RBI and 2 runs scored.
Both teams scored a run in the fourth inning and the Miners would go on to tie up the score in the top of the fifth inning with a solo home run by Genesis Hillard.
The Hoppers scored the game winning run in the bottom of the eighth with a sacrifice fly from Gross to left field scoring Allonte Wingate who reach base on a single to lead off the eighth inning.
Gavin Alvarez came in and struck out the side earning the save for the Hoppers.
The Hoppers are off tomorrow and will face the Fulton Railroaders (5-11) at home on Wednesday at Colonel Field in Hopkinsville.
