The Fulton Railroaders defeat the Paducah Chiefs, 9-6
(From Fulton) The Railroaders came out on top in the final innings of play to beat the Chiefs in Fulton but had to overcome five errors in order to do so. The Railroaders had to mustered up 14 hits to out match the Chiefs who had 8 total. The Chiefs used timely hitting taking advantage of Fulton's miscues.
The Railroaders quickly jumped to a 4-0 lead after the first inning of play which included a 3 RBI homerun by Zach Bishop. They added single runs in both the second and third innings only matching single runs produced by the Chief in the top half of both innings. The Chiefs continued to score single runs in the top of the fourth and fifth innings nibbling away at Fulton's lead while holding the Railroaders scoreless.
Top of eighth inning with the score 6-4 Fulton, the Chiefs leadoff batter got aboard on an error. Peyton Sockwell stepped to the plate and promptly hit a homer to right field and tied the game at 6 all.
Bottom half of the eighth with a runner on second and two outs, Andrew Swanson singled an RBI to put the Railroaders ahead. Newly acquired Chris Patterson followed with a 2 RBI homerun shot over center field to extend Fulton's lead. It was Patterson second center field homer on the night, his first a solo shot in the third inning.
The win goes to Kyle Beach pitching the final ninth inning holding the Chiefs scoreless. Matt Meihls threw for 7 good innings giving up 7 hits, tagged for 4 runs (2 earned), had 3 walks and 2 strikeouts. Konnor Aherin pitched in middle relieve for one inning and gave up 2 runs (one earned) and left the game tied.
Taking the loss for Paducah was the final reliever Joshua Scheer who gave up 3 hits and 3 runs that put Fulton ahead. Starter Tanner Smith threw for 5 1/3 innings allowing 10 hits, 6 earned runs, 2 walks and 2 strikeouts. Clay Newton in middle relief went 1 2/3 innings allowing no runs, one hit, one walk and had 3 strikeouts.
