The Hoptown Hoppers defeat the Fulton Railroaders, 9-6
(From Hopkinsville) The Hoppers (17-1) roar back from a 6-3 deficit with a 5 run bottom of the seventh inning to extend their winning streak to 10 games, defeating the visiting Fulton Railroaders (6-12) with a final score of 9-6. The Hoppers would put up a total of 10 hits in the game with no errors. Fulton had 7 hits with one error. Jacob Stevens (1-0) got his first win of the season with Gavin Alvarez getting his third save of the season. Alex Smith (0-1) got his first loss of the season for the Railroaders.
The Hoppers scored two runs in the bottom of the second with a two-run home run by Hunter Holland, his third of the season after Andrew Gross led off the inning with a double. They added another run in the bottom of the fourth inning after a two out walk put Kyle O'Keefe on base. Kyle would then score after a stolen base and then a Grant Robbins double to drive him in.
The bullpen of the Hoppers would struggle in the top of the sixth inning where Carlos Cespedes and DJ Lewis would give up 3 runs each on 3 hits by the Railroaders. Zach Bishop led off the inning with a single for the Railroaders. He would subsequently score on wild pitches. Mason Elliot had the other single in the sixth inning. The Hoppers pitchers then loaded the bases up and walked in the second run of the inning. The Railroaders then took the lead with a grand slam by Andrew Swanson, his second home run of the season.
Jacob Stevens pitched a scoreless top of the seventh inning for the Hoppers. The bottom of the seventh inning would see 5 runs scored by the Hoppers, 3 of those being walked in with the bases loaded. Andrew Gross added another RBI making his total 34 on the season. Hunter Holland would also add another RBI with a sacrifice fly making his total 20 on the season.
Austin Hearn pitched effective relief in the top of the eighth inning giving up no runs. The Hoppers added one more run in the bottom of the eighth with a fielder's choice RBI by Matt Crowder scoring Brian Chilton. Gavin Alvarez pitched a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the ninth inning to close out the game and earn the save.
Casey Queener got the start for the Hoppers on the mound tonight, his fourth of the season. He pitched 5 scoreless innings maintaining his ERA at 0.00 through 24 innings pitched. He would finish the game with a no decision.
The Hoppers play the Muhlenberg County Stallions (3-13) at home tomorrow night.
