The Hoptown Hoppers defeat the Muhlenberg County Stallions, 5-3

 (From Hopkinsville) The Hoptown Hoppers (18-1) remain unbeaten at home after defeating the vising Muhlenberg County Stallions 5-2. Tyler Walton (3-0) gets credited with the win only giving up 2 runs on 6 hits in 8 innings of work. Muhlenberg suffered their second straight loss dropping their record to 3-14. Gavin Alvarez got the save on the game, his fifth of the season. Steve Acosta got the loss for the visiting Stallions. The Hoppers win tonight extends their win streak to 11.

The Hoppers struggled at the plate the first 3 innings but were able to put up their first run with an RBI single by Matt Dudas, driving in Grant Robbins who reached first base on a two out walk and second on a wild pitch. Tyler Walton pitched a scoreless five and two-thirds innings before giving up a solo home run by Jamie Valvano of the Stallions, his second home run of the season, tying the game at 1-1.

Steve Acosta struggled in the bottom of the sixth inning, giving up five straight hits to the Hoppers with singles by Andrew Gross, Wendell Champion, Kyle O'Keefe, Grant Robbins and Matt Dudas. Corey Mason came in for relief, giving up a two run single by Chase Schmittou topping off a 4 run, 6 hit inning by the Hoppers.

Tyler Walton remained effective through eight innings only giving up one more run in the top of the eighth inning on a wild pitch with the bases loaded scoring Mark Treadway for the Stallions.

A rain delay just as the game was heading into the ninth inning held up game play for approximately 45 minutes, but the storm passed quickly and play resumed with Gavin Alvarez taking the mound. Alvarez gave up a lead off single by Nigel Williams of the Stallions, but went on to retire the next three batters in order earning his fifth save of the season.

The Hoppers continue their home stand on Friday when they face the visiting Paducah Chiefs (4-14).
